If your league is at all close, or if you are still fighting hard for a strong Overall Rank, GW37 is squarely in your sights. 16 matches will be played over six days, and it will likely go a long way toward determining how your FPL season ends. What should you do? Let this be your guide.
First, there are eight clubs only playing one match. That does not have to eliminate their players from consideration, but it's something to evaluate. Here are the clubs, along with their one opponent:
- Liverpool (at CHE)
- Burnley (at ARS)
- Everton (vs SOU)
- Bournemouth (vs SWA)
- Watford (vs NEW)
- Crystal Palace (at STK)
- Stoke (vs CRY)
- West Brom (vs TOT)
You likely only own players from three of those clubs: Liverpool, Burnley, and Crystal Palace -- maybe a discount defender from one or two others. The only favorable matchup is Crystal Palace's, but will they be at the beach now that they are safe from relegation? It's hard to tell.
The other 12 clubs play twice. Here are their matchups:
- Manchester City (vs HUD, vs BHA)
- Manchester United (at BHA, at WHA)
- Tottenham (at WBA, vs NEW)
- Chelsea (vs LIV, vs HUD)
- Arsenal (vs BUR, at LEI)
- Leicester (vs WHU, vs ARS)
- Newcastle (at WAT, at TOT)
- Brighton (vs MUN, at MCI)
- West Ham (at LEI, vs MUN)
- Huddersfield (at MCI, at CHE)
- Swansea (at BOU, vs SOU)
- Southampton (at EVE, at SWA)
Just going off the matchups alone, you love what the Manchesters have on paper. Tottenham's matchups are also tasty. You would not be crazy to use your Triple Captain chip for a player from one of these three clubs.
To go one step further, someone in our private league just used his Wildcard to max out on United and City players as well to position himself for GW37.
Chelsea provides a mixed bag, but you cannot overlook that midweek Huddersfield matchup. Arsenal's schedule is tricky. Burnley may still be able to overtake Arsenal when this match is played, which will provide something extra for that match. Leicester is difficult to play at night, so that makes both matches hard to predict for the Gunners.
Leicester is entirely unpredictable right now, and I wouldn't recommend you own anyone on that squad as a result. Newcastle plays two away matches, so it is hard to know what they can provide. Brighton, West Ham, and Huddersfield are just hoping they have enough points to survive relegation.
While Swansea and Southampton have decent matchups on paper, they are in the relegation zone for a reason. It's very possible that the midweek matchup between these two clubs will determine which one stays up for next season.
As is often the case, the best players to play might be from the best clubs. As always at this time of the year, however, there will also be some surprises.
