The story of this FPL season so far has been all the points in defense. Marcos Alonso, Andy Robertson, and Jose Holebas have had great starts.
Points are slowly creeping forward into the midfield as Eden Hazard’s revival continues. Sadio Mane and Ryan Fraser have also become good stories.
And then there’s the forwards. On our last podcast episode, we briefly discussed whether or not you should go with three 7ish-or-less forwards. Below are the top ten forwards through five gameweeks (price in pounds listed in parentheses):
Sergio Aguero (11.4)
Aleksandar Mitrovic (6.8)
Romelu Lukaku (11.1)
Marko Arnautovic (7.0)
Callum Wilson (6.3)
Roberto Firmino (9.4)
Glenn Murray (6.5)
Josh King (6.3)
Danny Ings (5.7)
Troy Deeney (6.1)
Look at all those discounted options. Of course, the key to winning in FPL is predicting the future, not just understanding the past.
If you are planning to use your wildcard, and you like the matchups — generally speaking — that three of these discounted options have upcoming, you could do worse than a sub-21 pound front line.
Mitrovic, Marko, and Wilson. Marko, Murray, and Ings. Mitrovic, King, and Murray. The possibilities for stretching your cash and still scoring forward points are endless.
And then, when that’s done, you can go back to spending all that remaining money in midfield and defense — where the points keep flooding in.
