Scott's Thoughts on FPL Gameweek 6

September 25, 2018 Scott Wiebe

Our podcast will not be able to release an episode this week, so I (Scott) will publish some of my thoughts here. It’s not the same as audio, but it will have to do.

Liverpool 3-0 Southampton - Salah got his goal, but it probably won’t make anyone change their minds from what they were already doing. The back line looks as good as ever after the clean sheet. Only Mane and Firmino missed out.

As for the Saints…well, you got what you expected from this match, didn’t you? Bring on next week!

Cardiff 0-5 Man City - A week after swearing off City, I now want to tell you to stick with your City players for the rest of the year. Don’t worry about one week. Or two. Or even three. Right, Leroy?

Want proof that City players are the most frustrating players? 7 of them already have 30+ points in FPL. None of them — 0 City players — have scored at least 3 points in more than 4 matches this season. In other words, every single one of them have had 3-4 good weeks and then 2-3 bad weeks. Enjoy the roller coaster.

Cardiff…well, let’s just keep waiting until this crazy stretch ends.

West Ham 0-0 Chelsea - For those who captained Eden Hazard, this was disappointing. Thanks to the clean sheet, Marcos Alonso would have been the better choice. Thanks to the clean sheet, all of the FPL points were in the back for both clubs.

Speaking of the West Ham defense, well…there goes the West Ham Defender Scoring Update segment. Oh, and Andriy Yarmolenko is the runner-up winner this week of the Christian Benteke Wasteful Player of the Week Award.

Fulham 1-1 Watford - The goals come from forwards Aleksandar Mitrovic and Andre Gray. As Watford’s results have waned, so have the Hornets’ FPL points.

Brighton 1-2 Tottenham - Harry Kane was on the scoresheet, and Lucas Moura was not. Our mini-league is already questioning Moura’s validity moving forward. I’m not quite there yet, though. Erik Lamela is a super sub right now, but I’m not buying. Are you?

Anthony Knockaert’s goal was a wake-up call to FPL owners. He is quietly playing well this season. His scores are: 2, 5, 2, 6, 4, and 7. Not too bad at 5.5 pounds, right?

Man United 1-1 Wolves - Fred and Joao Moutinho scored the goals. Guess which one is FPL-relevant? Last week, we recommended Romelu Lukaku; after one week, that looks bad. He will probably be fine, though. The real recommendation from me this week? David De Gea. His last three scores are 6, 3, and 5.

Back to Joao Moutinho. His last 4 scores are 6, 3, 3, and 10. I’m on the fence about him. I won’t get him myself, but I won’t judge you if you do. Oh yeah, Raul Jimenez is pretty good, too.

Arsenal 2-0 Everton - The goal scorers were Lacazette and Aubameyang, even if the referees had to mess up for that to happen. Don’t look now, but there are multiple Gunner options in FPL right now. With future fixtures against Watford and at Fulham, that should continue.

No one is good on Everton right now. I did not transfer in Richarlison right away, and I’m glad about that. The next two fixtures might mean now is the time.

Leicester 3-1 Huddersfield - The Leicester scorers are a list of FPL who’s who right now: Iheanacho, Maddison, and Vardy. With Newcastle and Everton up next, you could do worse than those three guys.

I refuse to acknowledge the Terriers.

Burnley 4-0 Bournemouth - Well, this was quite a turn of events, wasn’t it? The Cherries have always been unpredictable. Luckily, no one’s prices are so high that you should question keeping who you have (e.g. Fraser, Wilson, King, etc.).

As for Burnley, anyone who knows what to do with these guys is lying. I guess maybe Joe Hart is ownable. And James Tarkowski. But I’m not ready to go there yet. Not even close.

Crystal Palace 0-0 Newcastle - And the winner of the Christian Benteke Wasteful Player of the Week Award goes to Mamadou Sakho! What a miss! Outside of that, there’s very little to see here. As often happens with this scoreline, only the defenders scored the points.

Stay tuned here for my thoughts on what to do for the upcoming gameweek with your FPL lineup…
